Design education and design skills training are at the core of Youth Design’s curriculum. Our unique combination of on-the-job, hands-on learning and educational offerings are geared to prepare Youth Designers with an understanding of the skills required in order to be successful in the 21st century workforce. Through our creative mix of out-of-school time workshops, technical training, cultural learning opportunities, and immersive professional workplace experiences, Youth Design’s curriculum is committed to developing the “whole student,” resulting in increases in critical thinking skills, problem-solving techniques, confidence, and self-reliance—all necessary for urban youth to achieve economic self-sufficiency.

Our curriculum and methodology are built on an innovative approach to leveraging the professional design community and the greater world of design as a vehicle for social change. With design education and design skills training at its core, Youth Design’s curriculum is focused on delivering long-lasting change through a combination of exposure, education, and access to and training in the professional design industry. This is paired with critical personal growth and youth development
skill-building in the areas of college readiness, critical problem solving, creative thinking, leadership development, cultural enrichment, and workforce readiness.
Our programming has been developed to cover three overarching areas of education and development for our Youth Designers throughout their Youth Design experience. These take place as full-day workshops on Saturdays during the school year and Thursday morning workshops during the Summer Immersion session.
